pride and prejudice
it´s one of my favourite books, and I´ve just seen the film together with my sister and my mother. Afterwards my mother wondered whether our future husbands would come to our father and ask for permission to marry us. She said she would like this somehow, it would be great to imagine someone asking if my father could trust him as far as to give him his daughter. When I protested a little bit because I want to be able to take care of myself before marrying, she said something would be missing if women were too self-confident. And she asked me if I didn´t like it to be protected and taken care of. Surely I would like that... but when my parents still think of me as a child someone must take care of, I can´t imagine to be able to lead a good and healthy marriage.
Hope I´ve expressed myself clearly =)
But now I like the book more than the film, because it´s got so wonderful irony and the love scenes are far more colourful in my own imagination. The film is somehow flat the second time you watch it, and sometimes it´s horribly unrealistic and "kitschig". Still it´s worth watching it, and there are some very beautiful scenes such as the one when Mr. Darcy touches Elizabeth´s hand the first time while helping her into the carriage. *sigh* So lovely and romantic...
